Corporate Support Officer

Stay, live and work in our community. We have an opportunity available for a Governance Support Officer to join our team. This position is a permanent full-time (35 hours per week) position.

About the role

As part of the Corporate Services Team, the Corporate Support Officer plays a key role in providing efficient and effective administrative and project support to the Corporate Services team, including councillors and meetings of Council. 

Key focus areas:

  • Produce high quality documentation and correspondence, including effective records management. 
  • Provide high level administrative assistance in the production and collation of reports and documents relating to the corporate services function.
  • Coordinate, compile, and distribute agendas and minutes for meetings of Council and relevant committees. 
  • Coordinate, attend, and provide support for meetings of Council, and relevant committees, including minute taking. 
  • Support staff across the organisation in the effective use of Council’s agenda, minutes and distribution software, and provide training to staff and councillors.
  • Provide customer-focused service and support to councillors. 
  • Monitor the Office of Local Government circulars for changes in legislation, identify impacts on Council policy and operations and prepare recommendations as required. 
  • Coordinate advisory committee movements and reports to Council as required. 
  • Coordinate and develop the receipt of petitions in accordance with guidelines. 
  • Provide support and assistance for local government elections. 
  • Prepare status reports on Council resolutions. 
  • Assist in the coordination of civic events and functions including Citizenship Ceremonies, Community Awards program, and others as required. 
  • Provide high level administrative and project support across the Corporate Services team as required.

 About you

  • Certificate of Attainment in Business Administration or related discipline or equivalent experience. 
  • Demonstrated experience in meeting practices and procedures, preparation of large meeting agenda and minutes, and minute taking.
  • Proven ability to touch type with advanced word processing skills, including a high level of speed and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated high level of diplomacy, tact, and discretion in dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Available to attend Council meetings which may extend beyond usual work hours (approximately once a month) 
  • Knowledge of Resolve automated agenda and minutes software (preferred)

Location: This position is primarily based at our Mullumbimby Office; however Council can require you to work from other work sites as required for operational reasons.
