Whether you’re early in your career or an experienced EHO, this dual-graded position (Grade 8–9) offers the opportunity to grow, step up, and build your expertise in a supportive and collaborative team. This role involves inspections, investigations, assessments, and stakeholder engagement to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and Council policies.

This role is offered as a fixed term position, until April 2027. Possibility for extension.

 What you'll be doing

  • Conduct inspections across food businesses, public health risks, and environmental issues
  • Investigate complaints and work with the community to achieve positive outcomes
  • Assess development applications and provide expert environmental health advice
  • Contribute to local policies and environmental health initiatives
  • Engage with residents, businesses, and stakeholders to promote safe practices

What you bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (or near completion) in Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Public Health, or similar
  • Knowledge of environmental health legislation, standards and guidelines
  • Experience, or the demonstrated capability to undertake, inspections, investigations, and assessments related to environmental health activities
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-focused mindset
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment
  • A proactive and collaborative approach

We offer:

  • A fixed term, full-time position (35 hours per week), until April 2027. Possibility for extension.
  • Salary and Conditions will be in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award with an appointment at a salary in the range of $70,450 to $97,686 per annum (dependent upon skills and experience)
    • Note: The rates above are for the 25/26 Financial Year. There is a 4% increase in pay rates from the first full pay period to commence on or after 1 July 2026. 
  • 12% superannuation, education and training support, flexible work hours, fitness passport and an attractive salary packaging scheme.

Location: This position is based at Mullumbimby; however, Council can require you to work from other work sites as required for operational reasons.

  • Reference Checks: Referees will preferably be your current or most recent supervisor and must be able to comment directly on your abilities in a work situation.   • Functional Health Assessment: If applicable, the functional health assessment evaluates your physical and functional capacity against the physical demands necessary to safely perform the job for which you have applied.
