About the opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Major Projects Coordinator to join our Assets and Major Projects team.

In this key leadership role, you will lead the successful delivery of Council's major infrastructure projects from strategic planning and funding through to procurement, construction and project completion. Leading a team of Project Officers, Client Representatives and a Business Analyst, you will provide expert engineering and project management leadership, oversee consultants and contractors, manage project budgets, risks and performance, and drive continuous improvement across project management systems and practices.

Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, government agencies, contractors and the community, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality infrastructure that supports the long-term needs of the Byron Shire community. 

Your role will involve:

  • Lead and coordinate the delivery of Council's major infrastructure projects from planning and funding through to procurement, construction and project completion.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring and support to your team to achieve high-quality project outcomes.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, risks and resources to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.
  • Oversee consultants and contractors, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, legislative requirements and Council standards.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, government agencies, contractors and the community to support successful project delivery.
  • Provide expert engineering and technical advice, prepare reports and deliver regular project performance updates to inform decision-making.
  • Drive continuous improvement across project management, contract management and reporting systems to enhance the delivery of Council's infrastructure program.

What you bring to this role:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline, with extensive experience delivering major infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in project planning, budgeting, forecasting, contract administration and contractor management.
  • Sound knowledge of project management principles for infrastructure assets, Work Health and Safety, environmental legislation and the Local Government framework.
  • Sound knowledge of Work Health and Safety requirements, environmental legislation and the Local Government Act, Regulations & procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to provide excellent customer service and deliver quality service outcomes as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, deliver projects on time and within budget, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build productive relationships and resolve complex issues.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy, with experience in the MS Office suite of software computer systems that support the delivery of construction and maintenance activities and projects, including financial and records management systems, estimating packages and GIS.
  • Current Class C Driver Licence and White Card.
  • Experience with application of AS4000 and GC21 contracts highly regarded.

We are offering

  • 1x full-time permanent position (35 hours per week)
  • Salary and Conditions will be in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award with an appointment at a salary in the range of $123,788, to $143,427 annually (dependent upon skills and experience) plus super.

Location: This position is based in Mullumbimby; however Council can require you to work from other work sites as required for operational reasons.
