Looking for an administration role where your work has a real impact on the community?
As our Utilities Operations Support Officer, you'll be at the heart of a busy Utilities operational team who deliver reliable water and sewer services across the Byron Shire. From coordinating customer requests and keeping operational work on track, to supporting purchasing, records and communications, you'll help make sure the team has what they need from an administrative perspective to get the job done.
This is a varied administrative role where you'll work closely with engineers and in particular our Principal Engineer Operations, support our operational teams, contractors, suppliers and customers. It's a great opportunity for a strong administrator who is an organised, proactive person who enjoys solving problems, keeping things moving and being part of a team that delivers an essential service to our community.
What you'll be doing
- Provide day-to-day administrative support to our Utilities engineering and operational teams.
- Work closely with and assist our Principal Engineer Operations
- Process and track work orders, customer requests and correspondence through to completion.
- Raise purchase orders, receipt invoices and assist with purchasing and procurement administration.
- Maintain accurate records, registers, contractor information and filing.
- Help monitor actions, deadlines and operational requests to ensure they are followed through.
- Prepare customer notifications for planned works and service interruptions.
- Respond to customer enquiries and connect technical matters with the appropriate team member.
- Liaise with staff, contractors, suppliers, government agencies and members of the community.
- Arrange meetings and prepare agendas and minutes.
- Assist with compliance and regulatory reporting information when required.
What we look for
We're looking for an organised and proactive administrator who enjoys working in a busy team environment and takes pride in keeping things moving. You'll bring:
- Qualifications in Business Administration or a related discipline, and/or demonstrated experience in an administrative role.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple requests, actions and deadlines.
- Experience with records management, work orders, purchasing processes or similar administrative systems.
- Great attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate, reliable work.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
- A strong customer service focus and confidence communicating with a range of people.
- Confidence using Microsoft suite, with the ability to learn Council systems.
- A collaborative approach and willingness to identify ways to improve administrative processes and systems.
- A current Drivers License.
Highly regarded:
- Experience in customer liaison, local government operations, or the water and sewer environment would be an advantage, but isn't essential.
We offer:
- A permanent full-time position, working 35 hours per week.
- Salary and Conditions will be in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award with an appointment in the range of $1,403.59 to $1,626.28 per week (dependent upon skills and experience).

Location: You will work in our Depot in Byron Bay, however Council can require you to work from other work sites as required for operational reasons.
