Are you an experienced 2IC or lead educator? We are looking for a qualified assistant director/educational leader to join our dynamic Children’s Services portfolio.

You will partner with our Children’s Services Director to inspire, mentor and lead our well established and qualified team of educators to continue build upon the excellent work of our team. You will also be the Responsible Person (acting Nominated Supervisor) duties in the absence of the Director. You will drive regulatory compliance requirements including regular procedures and policies reviews.

We operate Sandhills Early Childhood Centre (long day care) and three Outside School Hours Services (OSHC) with a team of around 40 educators. We pride ourselves on being child and community focussed and offering a nurturing and happy environment.  We strive to provide a peaceful, grounded safe haven in which children thrive. We build on children’s strengths and interests to engage with them in play-based learning.


The position is part time (21hours) and offered on a two-year term appointment.

Salary and Conditions will be in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award with an appointment at a salary in the range of $33 to $39 per hour (dependent upon skills and experience).

Other benefits include 10% superannuation, education and training support, flexible work hours and an attractive salary packaging scheme.


You will have:

  • an ACECQA approved Diploma Qualification in Children’s Services 
  • a strong understanding of both the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and National Quality Standards (NQS)
  • proven leadership experience within an Early childhood service (working with children 0-5 years)
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • dedication and commitment to developing the future of children
  • the enthusiasm to be proactive in planning, implementing and evaluating programs
  • experience to engage children through activities and experiences appropriate to stages of development
  • a friendly and energetic demeanour


This position is based at Sandhills Early Childhood Centre - Byron Bay, however Council can require you to work from other work sites as required for operational reasons.
